Individual Psychotherapy
Attachment theory and research have shown us that what reside at the heart of mental-health, including anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties, is a set of expectations about the degree to which close others are available to us at times of need, and how strongly (or weakly) we believe they can effectively soothe. In our work together, we will focus on clearly understanding the repeated early and current experiences that have led to your current set of "negative" expectations regarding close others, and create a new “dataset” of experiences that will shape more trusting and secure relationships in the future. The most common issues I work with are anxiety, depression, excessive anger, low self-esteem, divorce and post-divorce adjustments, parenting issues, romantic relationship issues, work stress, and meaninglessness. |
Couples Psychotherapy
Attachment-based couples therapy is designed to help partners deepen their emotional bonds and strengthen their relationship. Guided by years of experience working with couples and researching how attachment relationships influence romantic relationship quality, I will guide you to clearly articulate each of your underlying emotional needs, and how the other’s behaviors and language may fail to fulfill these needs. Ultimately, communicating about sensitive and vulnerable issues in ways that feel safe is critical to healthy, compassionate, and long-lasting relationships. The most common marital and couple communions issues I work with are infidelity, divorce, post-partum depression (for men and women), parenting issues, opposing stress-regulation strategies, and decisions around starting a family. |
Parent Coaching
Our research have shown that developing multiple secure attachment relationships within the child's family predicts optimal mental health. Attachment-based parent coaching focuses on strengthening the emotional bond between you and your child. I provide personalized strategies to foster positive emotional connection and overall healthy development by emphasizing elements of building the child's trust in you as the "stronger and wiser" attachment figure. Specifically, I will guide you in responding to your child’s needs with increased attentiveness and sensitivity (but not in expense of fostering your child's intendance), setting health disciplinary rules, managing challenging behaviors, and creating a nurturing home environment that supports your child's well-being, confidence, and resilience. The most common parenting issues I work with are single parenting, managing children's temper tantrums, "clingy" children, discipline and boundaries, and parent-child communication problems. |
